I get ideas.
I get ideas while driving. In bed. In the shower. When I should be paying attention to someone else speaking. In bookstores and libraries before ever opening a book. Most ideas linger in a 3-ring binder, scraps of paper taped to pages. A few materialize; those that do make up the body of my artwork.
Sources of inspiration include archaic domesticity and the literature that sought to instruct women on how to better themselves. I am also inspired by words as visual elements more so than as literal communication.
I work in series because one piece never seems to adequately cover the topic at hand. The idea dictates the medium; cross-stitch, drawing, painting, installation, mixed media, quilting, mixed media, public art. I place elements together instinctually and aesthetically, the meaning only becoming clear afterwards.
